Originin Snippets released

Today marks the launch of Snippets, a simple and easy to use Snippets manager that can be used as a simple CCK for Joomla!

There are many occasions where you need to reuse a piece of content for it to have the same look every time. With Snippets you can and it's easy to use and very flexible.

Snippets is great in many cases but if you need a full blown custom content site K2 is a great package to use.

Right now K2 is missing a plugin render action but they are working on it for the next release. As soon as that plugin call is in K2, Snippets will be great to use alongside K2 also to create pre-defined Snippets of HTML.

Robin, eZ Publish Community member of the Year

This weeks biggest news is for Robin. Besides being Originin tester he has been a long time Joomla! hero but is also heavily involved in the eZ Publish project.

For his efforts concerning the eZ project he received the honorable award for "Community member of the year" and boy are we proud and happy for him.

Here's the announcement and here's some pictures of the award which arrived at Robin's crib now taking a prominent spot in the living room.

Congrats to Robin by the whole Originin team!

Joomla! 1.5.21 Released

There is a new release for Joomla! 1.5, release notes.

Big thanks goes out to the community at All Together As A Whole for creating a patch which the Joomla! Development team could use to get to issue and create this new release.

Community involvement is incredibly important for a project like Joomla! and there is still much to learn and gain in this area for the Joomla! management.

Update your site to this latest release, our Listy plugin, Listy module, Shooter plugin/module and Freebeez extensions should work just fine with it.

Listy launched as module

Today we've launched Listy as a module with which you can use the same simple Listy syntax to render great lists in for example sidebars.

Look at this demo page to see just two modules creating an incredible amount of organized link lists.

J and Beyond 2011 in The Netherlands

Last year brought us the first ever international Joomla! meeting in Germany and it was a huge success. This year the event will take place in The Netherlands and expectations are it will be visited by even more people than the last edition.

J and Beyond is organized by and for the Joomla! community and creates a unique possibility to meet experienced and non experienced users, developers and solution providers from all around the world and all with the common passion for the CMS called Joomla! and other open source solutions for web based services.

You can find information about J and Beyond on:

The Originin team will probably be there so it would be great to meet you in person and maybe have a beer which is one of the main topics at the event of course :-)

Joomla! used by eBay and the new community magazine is out

Some great Joomla! news today.

Joomla! community magazine.

The Joomla! community magazine team has done it again and the magazine looks great and there's lots to read.

Some of the topics in this addition:

eBay Selects Joomla! Open Source to Foster Innovation From the Inside Out.

San Jose, Calif. – Oct. 1, 2010 – eBay (NASDAQ:EBAY), the world's largest online marketplace, today announced an agreement to use Joomla, the most popular open source content management system (CMS), to launch a community portal as part of eBay's internal analytics platform. eBay is leveraging open source for employees and supports an ongoing commitment to driving innovation across the business.

Launching this website

It's exciting and scary at the same time to launch this website but we think we've got it pretty right and we hope you like it.

One of the things that kept us from publishing extensions before is the support or maybe "non-support" that comes with making extensions public. It's actually very simple, we don't have time to answer general Joomla! support requests, build custom templates for €50 or even complete sites for peanuts or a case of beer. Believe us, requests like that come by the dozen and besides no time we find them unrealistic and unfair or even disrespectful.

We'll try to make very clear and simple documentation and create working demo's to make sure you can get started straight away. If you are encountering problems that are clearly related to our products you can of course use the contact form. We'll see how that goes for a while and if we need to launch a support forum or something like that.

We've got a small (at the moment all Dutch) but skilled team to test, support and have fun with this site.
